Dear Libyan Americans,
Today, I had a conversation with the Honorable Earl F. Hiliard with respect to his plans to lead a congressional delegation to Tripoli. I explained to him that he should take this opportunity to raise the human rights (particularly, the political prisoners) and democracy issues with the Libyan leadership. I also discussed with him the lack of travel security for Libyan Americans who would like to travel to the homeland. The congressman invited the Libyan American community to contact his office and expressed the willingness to discuss these issues when he travels to Tripoli. He also agreed to present the list of political prisoners to Ghadafi himself, if one is made available to him. The congressman is prepared to meet with Libyan Americans and to take with him anyone who wants to travel to Libya and will not go if a Libyan American is denied entry into Libya by the Libyan authority.
Please contact Matthew Lions the congressional aide at 202-225-2665 immediately and make your opinion known. Also, if anyone has a complete list of the political prisoners in Libya, please fax it to the congressman's office ASAP, his fax number is 202-226-0772.
This is opportunity to help our Libyan cause, so let's take advantage of it.
A Libyan American
