Over the last few years, the wide spread use of the internet and the relative anonymity it affords individuals have enabled many Libyans to freely voice their opinions and speak out against the rotten regime's atrocious record on human rights and its careless blundering of Libya and its human and natural resources. Discussion boards became popular vehicles for such display of free speech, first with the MENA Libya DG and Libyana Forum and then the Libyan Freedom Channel (LFC). However, the relative anonymity and the difficulty of managing such vehicles had enabled many of those who are not interested in supporting free speech or are keen on covering up the regime's dismal record to disrupt such discussion boards by posting under other posters' names, posting profane and offensive material and by other means of making readers' experience unpleasant.
Many users of these discussion boards had in the past expressed a desire to see a discussion board where some of these disruptions can be minimized. Towards that goal, Al-sidra online magazine had established a discussion board that offers some features which can help eliminate some of these difficulties. The board is hosted by one of the best sites for discussion boards on the net (ezboard). Among the many features it has,
(a) it allows users to register nicknames (anonymously) which can be protected by passwords,
(b) offers the facilitator of the board means of banning abusive users.
We invite all cyber Libyans interested in voicing their opinions in a hopefully more controlled environment to join us on this board. Undoubtedly, the same individuals who have been working hard to smother free speech and harass free voices will attack this effort like they have all other projects before it, by spreading fear, doubt and uncertainty among Libyans and making up all sorts of accusation towards the site or those supporting it. It is up to us to foil their efforts and prove them wrong. Registration is done anonymously and no perosnal information is required and those users who want complete anonymity and are afraid that their IP address (i.e. internet service provider) can be tracked are welcome to use proxy and anonymizer services.
