The attached card (biTaaqet tahaani) is meant for the self-identified "Libyan Arabs" who met with Buzaid Dorda in June. The leading verse (ras el-malzuma) was originally written by Libyan poet Bin Rwaila al-Ma'adaani during the Italian occupation. Bin Rwaila sarcastically congratulated the Libyans who had abandoned the cause of freedom and joined the ranks of the Italian oppressors. I grafted a few lines on the old congratulations to fit the present occasion. I suppose the Libyans of those times were under all kinds of misinformation from the invading "defenders of Islam." Likewise, our present-day atmosphere reeks with "winds of change" from an all too familiar, proverbial cologne bottle. OM ![]() |
