We are the Libyan students at Coventry University decided to abstain from our studies for today because we feel that an unjust ruling was imposed upon the innocent Libyan citizen Abdulbasset Almagrahi by the court at Camp Zeist in Holland in connection with the Lockerbei Case. The ruling was passed without any proven evidences or proofs and everybody knows that the indictment was a result of inferences upon inferences.
The Libyan students would like to confirm that we are absolutely sure that Abdulbasset Almagrahi is completely innocent as was stated by a lot of international law experts including Robert Black, the Scottish law professor and a lot of the families of the victims. These people and we are convinced that the ruling was taken as a result of political pressures and therefore we consider Abdulbasset as a kidnapped hostage. We call upon the conscience of humanity to examine this situation and analyse it carefully, so that this injustice against this innocent citizen and his country is completely and promptly overturned as well as abolishing of all sanctions and embargos against this country, which suffered huge financial losses and lost the lives of many children, women and elderly people.
