In support of Mr Elzwari

Dear Dr. Ibrahim

Please accept my regards and admiration for your effort in keeping this page a home away from home for so many Libyans abroad. In defence of freedom of opinion, I would like to say few words in support of Mr Elzwari for speaking his mind and telling us what we have forgotten for the past 30 years.

Although I am a Libyan Muslim from an Arabic background, living in a free society for the past 20 years I realized how hard it is to be a member of a small minority group, though it is hard but it is also sweet to rise above all the problems you face with dignity and success. I feel some kind of sadness to see other Libyans attacking Mr Elzwari for speaking his mind, I thought we all escaped the kind of ignorance that he is facing, perhaps we forgot why we got out. There is no need for calling him names and telling him that he is a Jew, but isn't that what we say all the time when we face somebody with an opposite opinion. I must say that Arabs and Muslims always blame somebody else for their own problems, we always blame the Jews for all our problems and we think all the world is out to get us, yet the problem is within ourselves, we forgot how to live, we all manage to find some excuse for our own failure. We blame the Americans, the English, the Turks, the French and mostly the Jews. We have to realize that we are just humans like every body else.

We believe that we have the best religion yet we as people are not the best, we teach our kids that all non-Muslims are bad people, we teach our kids to hate others because they don't belive what we belive, we go all the way to call our own people like Mr Elzwari a Jew just because he raised a forgotten point. What have we become!! I wonder. Islam is a religion of freedom, equality, democracy, love and respect for others like we respect our own. We have to realize that we can never be happy unless we change ourselves. We as Muslim Arabs could not have the freedom that we have away from home, we should take advantage of this opportunity and learn how to live, learn how to respect each other and move on with the rest of the world.

Stop fighting each other, come together and forget our differences. The rest of the world is moving so fast and pray to Allah that we will make up for the 50 years we have missed.

Thanks

Leeby Muslim Araby
