" Let us not underestimate our strength and value"

Dear Ibrahim:

I urge all fellow Libyan-Americans to contact their representatives in Congress and the Senate to educate on issues related to Libya. We should emphasize to them that there should be no relations with the Gaddafi regime before he meets the following conditions:
          1) Release all prisoners,
          2) Denounce all acts of terror against Libyans and non-Libyans alike,
          3) Enact a legitimate constitution,
          4) Respect for human rights,
          5) Accept responsibility for all murdered Libyans,
          6) Return all stolen properties,
          7) Adhere to international norms of civil behavior,
          8) Admit his failed policies and embark on a reconstruction process
of the country after he reduced it to rubble as a result of his                irresponsible behavior; this requires a major restructuring of the
               Libyan government.

Gaddafi realizes the importance of the Libyan-American community, that is the reason that he is courting it after his years of warfare to liquidate it. Let us not underestimate our strength and value. We should not sell ourselves for empty promises after all that we have been through. Each one of us should make an effort to make personal visits to our elected officials in Congress and the Senate. They are all on summer vacation in their respective states, so you can meet with them without having to travel to Washington. You merely call their offices and make an appointment to meet with them. We can make a difference in the lives of our friends and relatives back in Libya, not so much by wasting our time in discussions with Dourda, but by productive debate with our U.S. elected officials. You will find them responsive and appreciative of your visit.

Sincerely,

Mubarak El-Werfalli
